Language Learning for Emergencies App Concept
Product design, UX/UI
LinGO is a mobile app designed to improve communication between emergency responders and the communities they work with. In times of natural disasters, communication is vital in saving lives. However, in a nation as diverse as Australia, rescuers may not always have the necessary language to do so.
This app aims to teach responders important words and basic messages that they can use during emergency situations. The goal is not to achieve total fluency, but to make sure users master important language concepts so that complex information is conveyed correctly.
Every language course contains modules specific to the kind of disaster relief administered. Rescue groups can sign up as an organisation and assign their members to respond to specific situations. The app will use smart suggestions to recommend which words are important to know based on the assignment. It tracks which languages members of that team already know, and where gaps are that can be addressed.
The app doubles as a repository of key phrases as well, serving as a backup translator device in case cellular data is unavailable.
